Wake Up
Investing in What Actually Matters
First Week of Advent
Advent begins with a jolt.
Every year, the readings tell us to wake up, stay alert, pay attention, because God is doing something new. And let’s be honest: that’s not always easy to hear when we’re up to our eyeballs in holiday plans, travel schedules, Amazon deliveries, parties, stress, and the general December swirl.
But Advent doesn’t care about your calendar.
Advent is here to remind you that the real story isn’t happening at Target — it’s happening in your heart.
God is breaking in.
Something new is being born.
Hope is arriving, sometimes quietly, sometimes loudly, but always on time.
And that’s exactly why this week’s stewardship theme matters so much.
Because if Advent teaches us anything, it’s this:
Pay attention to what actually matters.
Everything else is noise.
In a season when there are more places to put your money than there are lights on a Christmas tree, this is your invitation to look around at St. Barnabas and ask:
“What is worth investing in?”
Look at what your giving supports:
A Food Pantry feeding more neighbors than ever
A parish walking alongside families at The Inn
Worship that lifts up hearts and opens up the Gospel
A campus that welcomes people with beauty and care
Children and youth discovering faith, confidence, and joy
A playground project that will bless families for decades
A church that is becoming known in the community as a place of welcome, encouragement, and hope
This is what generosity builds.
This is what pledges make possible.
Not noise.
Not clutter.
Not one more thing to wrap and return.
This is kingdom work.
This is transformation.
This is impact that actually matters.
Advent says: wake up to what God is doing.
Stewardship says: invest in it.
And here’s the truth: St. Barnabas doesn’t run on holiday magic. We run on the generosity of our members — on the pledges we make together as an act of faith, commitment, and hope. Your pledge for 2026 is not about keeping the lights on. It’s about keeping the mission alive.
Your giving outlasts your decorations.
Your generosity outlives your Amazon boxes.
Your pledge shapes real lives, long after the holiday rush is gone.
So as Advent begins — in all its beautiful, holy, chaotic energy — I invite you to pause for one sacred moment and ask:
“What am I investing in this season?”
What matters?
What lasts?
What strengthens the hearts of God’s people?
If St. Barnabas is one of those answers, then make your pledge.
Give with intention.
Give with hope.
Give with Advent courage — the kind that says,
“I want to be part of the new thing God is doing here.”
Because Advent isn’t just about watching for light.
It’s about choosing to shine it.
